OUCofA's Beginner's Course is a great way to learn archery, and have fun while doing it.

Goals - The basic aim is to get you proficiently shooting, able to set up and take down equipment unsupervised, do all of it safely and most importantly to have fun whilst doing it. By the end of the course (the end of term) you'll be competant enough to shoot completely unassisted and will be able to shoot at our 2 additional "experienced" sessions each week.

We'll also aim to have you ready to face the exciting world of archery tournaments, with our first one of the year (with strong emphasis on novice participation, no matter how good you are) at the University of Nottingham on Sunday 4th November.

Structure - Each week we'll be teaching something new, building on everything you have learned so far. We'll start by introducing your to recurve archery and showing you how to use a sight. We'll have all our available coaches and experienced archers on hand to offer you their help, with an emphasis on 1 on 1 coaching as much as possible.

The content of the sessions on Tuesday and Thursday afternoons will be the same. You only need to attend one session each week, but we recommend attending both as that will allow you to develop much quicker.
It'll be best if you can make it along every week, but don't worry if you can't make it occasionally.

Equipment - Everything you need will be provided by the club, from bows and arrows that you can use each week, to your freshers pack which will include an armguard, fingertab, fingersling and cliniband that will all be yours to keep.

Requirements - No prior knowledge is assumed or required. Our only requirement is membership of the club. Enthusiasm always helps :)

Clothing - You can wear pretty much whatever you want, but try to avoid anything baggy around the arms and chest.

Location - The main hall of the University Sports Centre on Iffley Road

Time - Tuesday and Thursday from 2:00pm till 4:30pm. These are the times we have the hall booked.
Please try to arrive on time so you can help us set things up so we can get started promptly.

Cost - The beginners course is included with membership of the club (which is compulsory for insurance reasons). Membership is £35 for the year, and comes with a long list of benefits which are detailed elsewhere on the site. Everybody in the club pays £35, regardless of whether they are novices or not, so you are effectively getting the course for free.

For reference, any other non university club would charge you around £100 for less than we can offer you. You'll never be able to learn archery so cheaply after you leave Oxford.
